"‘FLOOR’ is a plastilina wonderland of depth and dialogue" - Oregon ArtsWatch

Against the pressing backdrop of late-stage capitalism, Lutz-Higgins examines personal and collective desire in the remounting of her dance-theater work FLOOR. She asks: How do we orchestrate the conditions for celebration when the things we want are out of reach? What does celebration look like when you don’t get the job, the house, the opportunity? Can a party be both a protest and a prayer? And how, if possible, can we get all the things we want? FLOOR asks these questions slyly, comically, and with rapture. Weaving rigorous physicality, spoken dialogue, unexpected partnership, and the building of an ornate architecture of streamers toward a big finale dance number, FLOOR unfolds as an exploration, a party, and an intense desire to test the elasticity of joy, to see what still glimmers once the celebration is over. Oscillating between sincerity and absurdity, the work stages celebration as both a personal act of endurance and a collective strategy for resilience.
